Concepts for wastewater heat recovery

in the sewage canal, sewer

In order to recover energy, the heat exchanger is built directly into the canals/sewers of different cross-section geometry, or the wastewater is channelled through an external heat exchanger. The subsequent installation of sewer heat exchangers into the brine of the existing, renovated or newly constructed wastewater pipe is by far the most frequent form of exploitation. Energy systems based on heat exchangers are used both for heating as well as for cooling.

In order to guarantee the functionality of the heat exchanger, the individual heat exchangers are connected to the supply and return lines according to the Tichelmann system. New plants offer a two-pipe system with the possibility of connecting along the entire length of the route of the heat exchanger different energy users for both heating and cooling
