Concentration Regulation
for Caustic Soda Solutions (
NaOH)

For mercerizing machines

strong lye regulation
to maintain a constant concentration in the circulation of the impregnation compartment (saturator), mainly for wet-in-wet mercerizing, but also for dry-in-wet

weak lye regulation
to ensure a constant stabilization by maintaining the concentration of the weak lye leaving the stabilizing compartment or the chain section of the mercerizing machine

For caustic mixing units

preparation of a caustic soda solution
to the required concentration by mixing a strong solution (fresh lye or recovered lye) and a weak solution (weak lye or water)

Measuring principles

by oscillating tube (regulation type REGULA)
Oscillating element in tube form bent into a tuning fork. The liquid to be measured passes continuously through this element. Excited electro-magnetically by changes in the natural frequency by an exciting coil, it will oscillate at its natural frequency. Changes in the density of the liquid lead to changes in the natural frequency. This change in frequency, sensed by a pick-up coil, represents the measurement effect. An additional built-in resistance thermometer measures the process temperature, which is used to compensate the temperature influence in the transducer.

by floating body (regulation type LKR)
In a measuring container, a displacement body is suspended in the liquid to be measured. Changes in the density of the liquid lead to changes in the weight of the body. This change in weight, sensed by a pneumatic weight cell, represents the measurement effect. There is no temperature compensation with this measuring method.

Common problems in mercerizing machines

The concentration of caustic soda solutions in the mercerizing machine are often adjusted manually, by observing the Baumé reading and adjusting the valves. Or the installed automatic concentration regulators do not always function properly. This can lead to wrong concentrations and result in quality problems and/or to losses due to higher than required caustic consumption.

KASAG offers well proven automatic
caustic soda regulations to solve these problems.
