Weak lye regulation for mercerizing machines
|
The purpose of the system is to maintain a constant concentration of the last circulating weak lye of the stabilizing compartment or the chain section of mercerizing machines. This ensures a constant stabilization of the fabric without wasting water, and further ensures a constant weak lye concentration for feeding it to a caustic soda recovery plant. The weak lye regulation REGULA-W can be retro-fitted to old mercerizing machines. |

The concentration of the weak lye is measured and the quantity of counter-flow of wash liquor is automatically controlled to maintain the concentration at set-point, for example 8 °Bé. The surplus of wash liquor is drained. If the measured concentration in the weak lye is below set-point, the counter-flow is reduced, if it is higher than set-point, the counter-flow is increased. The concentration regulation will always ensure a constant concentration of the last weak lye circulation or its exit concentration. |
| For chain mercerizers, or combined mercerizers (as Benninger Dimensa or Kuesters Eco-Merc), the weak lye measurement will be at the corresponding exit position, not at the stabilizing compartment. In some mercerizing machines it may be possible to achieve a controlled counter-current flow to the stabilizing compartment without a small vessel and without a pump. Depending on the actual situation of the washing section, it may be beneficial to cut the counter-flow at a different location. |
